SCENARIO

Small Medium Industries (SME) are currently getting an attention due to issues related to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) as mass medias are continuously reporting various accidents at the workplace which results in deaths. With increase number of SME, our nation is facing greater challenges to monitor OSH requirements, workers’ safety & health issues. Understanding this importance, DOSH in cooperation with SME Corp, has taken initiative to manifest competent OSH-Coordinator, a representative of safety practitioners in the industries to monitor OSH requirements. DOSH target to increase the number of OSH practitioners nationwide has been included in SME 2020 Strategic Plan.

Employers required to appoint at least one (1) worker as OSH-Coordinator to manage Occupational Safety and Health requirements, assist employer by reporting OSH statistic and performance to DOSH, promote safety culture at workplace and take reasonable actions pertaining to OSH compliance.

SMEs should start sending the representative for OSH-Coordinator training program to carry out all duties relate to safety and health issues at workplace. Section 15 OSHA 1994 compliance is compulsory for all employers. Employers must act accordingly in ensuring the safety and health at their respective workplaces. Companies that violate OSH legislations would be penalized worse when incidents happen at workplace with absence of safety representative.
